Our philosophy

Counseling

Counseling is generally appropriate for individuals or families who are experiencing challenges in their life which have exceeded their ability to function or adjust comfortably. These issues may be recent and temporary, or something that's been a lifelong struggle. Sometimes people come to counseling with a very clear idea of what the problem is. At other times, someone may simply feel that something isn't right — either situation is okay, since part of a counselor's job is to help you identify and define the problem, then plan a course of resolution together.

At Paradise Creek Counseling and Consulting we view the counseling relationship as a collaboration. We recognize that each client's situation is unique, and we work with each client to design and implement a treatment plan that suits their needs. One course of treatment may be appropriate for one individual or family, but not another. Our counselors have pursued different areas of specialization and expertise, and we work as a team to provide the highest quality treatment for all of our clients.

Initially, your counselor will spend time gathering information and getting to know you and/or your family's unique situation — through questions and discussion, assessment instruments, and observation of children's play and patterns of family interaction. After this initial phase, you and your counselor will decide together what course of treatment is most appropriate. During treatment, counselors may employ traditional talk therapy, experiential activities, play therapy, homework assignments, and may suggest other professionals or services to enhance progress.

If you believe counseling may be helpful to you or your family, please contact us by phone or email. We're happy to answer any questions or schedule an appointment.

Our philosophy

Psychiatric Care & Medication Management

Psychiatric care is a comprehensive yet individualized approach to mental health treatment. It involves exploring and recognizing each person's unique needs, and combines medical, psychological, and social interventions to help the individual improve their mental health. Often, psychiatric care involves treatment with medication (medication management). At Paradise Creek Counseling, psychiatric care and medication management is available with a Nurse Practitioner who has specialized certification in Psychiatry and Mental Health.

Psychiatric medication management is focused on the safe, effective, and personalized use of psychiatric medications to treat a wide variety of mental health conditions. Treatment with medication typically involves the following:

  • Initial assessment: A comprehensive evaluation of symptoms, medical history, current medications, lifestyle, and treatment goals to determine if treatment with medication would be of benefit.
  • Medication determination: Clinical decision-making about the right type(s) of medication (e.g., antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, anxiolytics) based on diagnosis, evidence-based guidelines, and individual factors.
  • Dosage and regimen planning: Determining initial doses, titration schedules, and combinations to optimize benefits while minimizing side effects of medication.
  • Ongoing monitoring: Regular follow-up visits to assess effectiveness, detect side effects, and make adjustments to medication as needed.

Treatment with medication is a collaborative process, with the patient and Nurse Practitioner working together to tailor treatment to each person's unique needs. If you are interested in Psychiatric Care and Medication Management, please contact us for more information.
